Sheltering the Planet
Protecting our
people and our planet through innovation and technology is our passion.
We don’t just talk about being green. From our 100% solar powered
factory to our commitment to use as much local and highly recycled content
steel as possible, we make an effort to live green. Our respect for
the environment extends to the work environment where we realize that our
people are our most valuable asset.
As a member of the Codding group
of companies, we are proud to join them in their mission to protect the
environment through sustainable development, by providing steel frame
solutions that reduce our impact on the planet’s natural resources.
We maintain an unrelenting focus, not only on green building practices, but
also on everyday green practices. It’s who we are, not just what we
do.
Steel Recycling
For many years the
building industry has recognized and lauded steel for strength, durability,
and functionality. Increasingly now builders are recognizing steel’s
important environmental attributes-especially its high recycled content and
high reclamation rate. Steel is this country’s most recycled -
material, and as more steel is used for construction, more scrap is
available for future recycling. In addition to recycled content,
steel can contribute toward several other LEED credits, either directly or
indirectly.

and “Steel and the Environment” for more.
Community Built Out of Steel
Sonoma Mountain
Village is a 200-acre, mixed use (1,900 homes, several dozen retail
businesses and over 100 other businesses) solar-powered, zero-waste
community under development by Codding Enterprises. This “truly
sustainable” community addresses food, car sharing, fair trade, and
affordable housing, education and art in addition to such traditional
green elements like building materials, water, energy and indoor air
quality. Codding Enterprises addressed “local and sustainable
materials” by creating a 50,000 sq ft, 100% solar powered manufacturing
facility. Our steel frame factory uses the steel from eight recycled
cars to build a new home with no emissions and less than 3% of the
typical construction waste. The finished building can be recycled
into a new building when it is renovated or demolished in the distant
future.
